Tinubu Didn’t Endorse Mounting 2027 Campaign Billboards – Presidency

April 14, 2025

The presidency has declared that President Bola Tinubu and his vice, Kashim Shettima, did not endorse or authorise anyone or group to commence the 2027 campaign by mounting billboards across the country.

In a statement released on Sunday, Tinubu’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, said the Presidency has observed with dismay, the increasing number of billboards in some cities, like Abuja and Kano promoting the 2027 campaign for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

It said some of the billboards equally contain pictures of the President and his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

The statement said that while the president and vice president expressed their appreciation to the group or individuals funding the project for their support, the two leaders, however, urged that such campaign materials should be removed and the prospective ones discontinued.

The presidency said it does not support any campaign that breaches the laws of the land.

It said: “the electoral laws that guide the conduct of elections and political campaigns forbid any form of campaign for the 2027 general elections.

“Premature campaigning can undermine the integrity of the electoral process and create unfair advantages. As law-abiding leaders, President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima do not support any action that undermines our institutions and the electoral process.”

The presidency further stated that campaigns can only formally start when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) releases the timetable for the 2027 elections.

According to the statement, “Until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) sets the timetable for the 2027 elections, the President has not endorsed or authorised anyone or any group to mount a 2027 campaign for him through any media channel—be it Out-of-Home, print, digital, radio, or television.”

The presidency therefore called on individuals and groups funding the ongoing deployment of billboards nationwide for the 2027 political campaign to cease immediately.

“President Tinubu and his deputy are fully committed to delivering the ongoing task of nation-building they have set for themselves. This commitment is evident in their focus on economic revitalisation, human capital development, infrastructural renewal, social investment, and national security.

“When INEC signals that the processes for the 2027 elections can start, President Tinubu will duly inform Nigerians of his plans” the statement added.
