Anambra Security Heads Launch Joint Operations To Tackle Kidnapping, Violent Crimes

Heads of security agencies in Anambra State have set up a joint security operation to tackle kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state effectively.

The joint operation was formed during a meeting on Friday, 11 April 2025 by Anambra State Service Commanders comprising the Army from 302 Artillery Regiment (GS), the Navy from the Naval Outpost, Department of State Security (DSS), Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Services (NIS), Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigeria Customs and the Anambra State Vigilante.

According to a statement by the Anambra Police Command spokesperson, Toochukwu Ikenga, the meeting was held at the Office of the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, in Awka, the state capital

Code-named Operations Udo Ga Chi, the launching of the security operation, comes as the Easter season celebration approaches.

Ikenga emphasised that the timing of the operation, coinciding with the Easter season celebrations, “underscores the Security Force’s dedication to maintaining peace and security during festive periods and beyond.

“This initiative aims to prevent all violent crimes, especially kidnapping, by ensuring a safer environment for residents and visitors during this Easter period and beyond.”

According to Ikenga, the “Operations shall focus on Community engagement, working closely with the public to gather intelligence and prevent crimes, fostering trust and cooperation between law enforcement and the community.

“It is also a commitment to a proactive policing strategy that is community-based and community-driven to tackle security challenges in Anambra State.”

He said the state commissioner of police noted that the Police aims to create a safer and more secure environment for all by working with other security agencies.
