“She was cheating and I don’t regret killing my girlfriend,” he had said.

This development, has sparked reactions among Nigerians who expressed dismay over the suspect’s sudden denial, just as trial was about to commence.

Mr. Johnson, took to his X account @Jonehmk to comment, “Some powerful people are behind this b@stard honestly. Nigerians should just stop following the case. It might end up like that of Reverend King!”

Another X user @EbituPromise said: “pleading not guilty after confessing on camera is a blatant mockery of the justice system. If the evidence is clear, justice should be swift and uncompromising, but this is Nigeria.”

“If you discover a thing like this, just do jungle justice, don’t wait for the higher criminals in uniform to pick the bastards up,” @raphzyjnr wrote.

“The guy deceived the police not to make proper investigations on him by confessing at the station, the truth is that this guy is working for people in high places and the law is blind,” @Excel8965 stated.

The Police had in a statement on X, confirmed that Ajayi was charged with one count of culpable homicide punishable by death.

The embattled gospel singer was arraigned before Justice Simeon Aboki at the High Court, Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital on Monday.

According to reports, Stanley Ifeanyi, the state counsel, informed the court that Ajayi allegedly killed Ms Adaidu, a member of the FCT’s National Youth Service Corps.

The prosecution said that on 12th January, the suspect murdered Ms Adaidu at his home in the Papalana axis of New Karshi, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

Ifeanyi stated that the offence violated Section 221 of Northern Nigeria’s Penal Code Law and was punishable by death.

The judge ordered that Ajayi be remanded at the Lafia Custodial Centre and adjourned the case to 17th March for a hearing.
