FIFA Club World Cup: African Reps To Know Group Opponents Thursday

African clubs that qualified for next year’s FIFA Club World Cup, will know their group opponents on Thursday, as draw for the expanded championship holds in Miami, USA.

Al Ahly of Egypt, Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco, Esperance Sportive de Tunis of Tunisia and Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa who qualified under the canopy of Confederation of African Football (CAF) will be representing the continent.

The 32 teams that will battle for honours have been confirmed by FIFA ahead of Thursday’s draw. Manchester City currently struggling to find their feet in the EPL having lost heavily against Tottenham and Liverpool conceding four goals and two goals respectively in both matches without scoring any are current holders of the trophy.

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is scheduled to take place in the United States between June 15 and July 13, 2025. This will be the first time the tournament will be featuring an expanded forma

The tournament will gather the most successful clubs from each of the six international football confederations: the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf), the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC), and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).

Confederation of African Football (CAF)

Al Ahly (Egypt): The club boasts an impressive record in the CAF Champions League, having triumphed in the 2020/21, 2022/23, and 2023/24 editions.

Wydad AC (Morocco): Victorious in the 2021/22 CAF Champions League.

ES Tunis (Tunisia): Qualified through the CAF ranking pathway.

Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa): Also coming through the CAF ranking pathway.

Asian Football Confederation (AFC)

Al Hilal (Saudi Arabia): Champions of the 2021 AFC Champions League.

Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan): Winners of the 2022 AFC Champions League.

Al Ain (United Arab Emirates): Qualified by securing the 2023/24 AFC Champions League title.

Ulsan Hyundai FC (South Korea): Gained entry via the AFC ranking pathway.

Union Of European Football Associations (UEFA)

Chelsea (England): Champions of the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League.

Real Madrid (Spain): Two-time champions in the 2021/22 and 2023/24 UEFA Champions League.

Manchester City (England): Reigning champions of the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League.

Bayern Munich (Germany), Paris Saint-Germain (France), Inter Milan (Italy), FC Porto (Portugal), Benfica (Portugal), Borussia Dortmund (Germany), Juventus (Italy), Atletico Madrid (Spain), FC Salzburg (Austria): All qualified through the UEFA ranking pathway.

Confederation Of North, Central America And Caribbean Association Football CONCACAF)

Monterrey (Mexico): Champions of the 2021 Concacaf Champions Cup.

Seattle Sounders (USA): Victors in the 2022 Concacaf Champions Cup.

Club León (Mexico): The 2023 Concacaf Champions Cup champions.

Pachuca (Mexico): Winners of the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup.

Oceania Football Confederation (OFC)

Auckland City (New Zealand): Qualified for the OFC ranking pathway.

South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL)

Palmeiras (Brazil): Champions of the 2021 CONMEBOL Libertadores.

Flamengo (Brazil): Winners of the 2022 CONMEBOL Libertadores.

Fluminense (Brazil): Champions of the 2023 CONMEBOL Libertadores.

Botafogo (Brazil): Secured a spot by winning the 2024 CONMEBOL Libertadores.

River Plate (Argentina) and Boca Juniors (Argentina): Qualified through the CONMEBOL ranking pathway.

Inter Miami (USA) will participate as the host nation slot.
