Pictures and videos circulating on social media showed communities submerged by raging flood from overflowing water bodies.

In one of the videos recorded at Mmiata-Anam on October 27, the narrator, Nnoruka Anaekwe, said residents of the area have resorted to the use of wooden boats to navigate the flooded terrain.

The flood which was caused by rising water level has caused widespread damage to homes, farmlands, and infrastructure, leaving many residents displaced and in need of urgent assistance.

The United States President, Joe Biden, had on Tuesday, 29 October called Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu on a phone call that lasted for 30 minutes, where he, among other things, expressed condolences to the country over the recent flooding in Maiduguri.

One of the videos shows the Deputy local government chairman of the Anambra West Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs Edith Ndive being conveyed to her house with a wooden canoe.

According to reports, not less than five local government areas have so far been submerged, while the water level is still on the rise.

They include Anambra West, Anambra East, Ogbaru, Awka North, and Ayamelum Local Government Areas.
