He called on the state governor and other political leaders in the state to exercise restraint and caution their supporters to shun violence.

Prime Business Africa had reported that hoodlums evaded some local government headquarters in Rivers State on Monday and set fire on sections of the secretariat buildings.

Eleme, Emohua, and Ikwere local government secretariats were torched by suspected arsonists.

In some other local government areas, there were cases of shootings and attempts to prevent newly elected chairmen from gaining access to their local council headquarters.

This comes after the local government election held on Saturday, 5 October in the state.

According to a statement by Tinubu’s Special Adviser, Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president said “government facilities built with public funds must be safeguarded from vandalism.”

The president further warned against resorting to self-help by those who feel aggrieved about the outcome of the LG election, adding that such action is destructive and has no place in a democratic system.

According to President Tinubu, the judiciary can settle all political disputes, and the outcome of the Saturday’s LG poll in the state should be no exception.
