Edo State Government has condemned what it called an “unauthorised visit” by the reinstated Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, to the construction site of the Radisson Hotel Project.
A viral video showed where Shaibu allegedly acted as the deputy governor of the state by inspecting the site of the Radisson Hotel.
In a statement, the state Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Osa Nehikhare, said Shaibu’s action “represents a significant breach of privacy for the private sector investors involved in the project.”
The commissioner said the Radisson Hotel Project is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), where the private sector holds the majority equity, adding that as such, the “investors have the right to pursue legal action against Philip Shaibu for infringing upon their private space.”
The commissioner urged Shaibu to respect the rights of the private company and should also avoid breach any law.
“We recognise that Philip Shaibu’s limited experience in the private sector may hinder his understanding of the legal risks associated with his actions. It is important for him to acknowledge that, as a private citizen, he must conduct himself in a manner that respects the rights and privacy of others in accordance with the law.
“The Edo State Government is dedicated to ensuring the security and safety of businesses and investments within the state. We will provide the necessary support for any investor whose rights or privacy has been violated, empowering them to seek redress. This commitment aims to bolster investor confidence and ensure that businesses can prosper without fear of interference.
“We urge the private sector in Edo State to disregard the actions of the impeached deputy governor and to have confidence in the protection of their investments under the laws of the state,” the commissioner stated.
