Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Mr Peter Obi, has countered reports that he said he is willing to be vice president to any particular candidate in 2027.
Obi stated this while responding to comments trailing his recent interview with News Central Television.

“For the avoidance of doubts, I never stated at any time that I would be vice president to anyone and it’s unequivocal,” Obi clarified.
Obi said he is currently not preoccupied with seeking election into any public office in 2027 while Nigerians are suffering as a result of hunger, poverty, insecurity, and other pressing challenges.
The former Anambra State governor reiterated his commitment to Labour Party, adding that on the issue of collaboration, he is willing to work with others who share the same vision with him about advancing Nigeria’s progress.

“When I was asked about collaboration, I explicitly stated my openness to working with others, provided their intentions were not centred on state capture. I emphasised my commitment to partnering with those who share my vision for advancing Nigeria’s progress.
“I also made it clear that I remain committed to the Labour Party, and if anyone wishes to negotiate or join forces, they must disclose their true intentions.
“As I have always maintained, I am not desperate to become president, but I am determined to see Nigeria work. Likewise, I am not desperate for any position at all as I believe I can make contributions as I am already doing without occupying any,” he stated.
Obi further stated that when 2027 comes and he decides to run for any office, “it will not be with those whose sole aim is state capture or merely winning an election.”
He said his commitment to making Nigeria work remains steadfast, adding that he believes it is possible to contribute to the country’s progress without occupying any office, as he is already doing.
He reiterated his focus on how to tackle poverty, unemployment, health challenges, insecurity and ensuring that millions of out-of-school children are back to classrooms.
