Nigeria’s chances of lifting the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Cameroon in January 2022 has been dealt a significant blow with reports on Monday evening from Italy indicating that Napoli’s Victor Osimhen will be out of action for at least two months.

The former FIFA U-17 World Cup winner was substituted in his club’s 3-2 defeat to Inter Milan on Sunday evening after he sustained a cheekbone fracture and tore his eye socket.

Early prognosis shows that the Nigerian could be out of action for two months meaning he will miss the Afcon scheduled to hold January 9 and February 6.

Osimhen picked up the injury after a sickening clash of heads with Milan Skriniar and has been transferred to an Italian hospital.

The competition originally billed for 2021 was postponed to early next year due to the effects of the Coronavirus which hampered sporting calendars.
