Nigerians In Blackout As Power Grid Collapses Again

Nigeria’s electricity grid has collapsed again, plunging some parts of the country into darkness.

Checks by Prime Business Africa on the Independent System Operators website showed that the total generation on the grid crashed to 00:00:00 at 1:33 pm on Monday, 5th August 2024.

It had reach a peak of 4,067.77MW and declined to about 823.5MW before the dropping to 0.00.

This is the fifth time it is occuring in 2024. The last time country was thrown into darkness due to the grid failure was on 6 July 2024.

It is not clear what led to the latest grid failure.

However, it had in the past been attributed to challenges around gas supply to power plants.

The power generation experienced gradual restoration, returning to 3,00MW as at 8 pm.
