Interestingly, Netflix told anyone that cares to listen that the development is to accelerate its revenue and earnings growth to support the expansion of content offerings.
With the latest price increase, Nigerians will now pay N7,000 monthly for Netflix’s Premium Plan, which has seen a 40 per cent increase from its previous rate of N5,000.
The standard plan subscription increased by 37.5 per cent from N4,000 to N5,500, which is popular among Nigerian subscribers for its HD quality and multi-screen viewing options.
Its Basic plan, which was N2,900, has increased by 21 per cent, which stands at N3,500, while Mobile, the lowest subscription plan, has gone up by 83 per cent from N1,200 to N2,200.
Prime Business Africa reports that Netflix had in April 2024, increased subscriptions for Nigerian users.
It is also recalled that even Nigerians who settle for DSTV and their packages equally had a running battle with the outfit after the South African based Cable network increased prices across board forcing subscribers to head to court.
The court did not only order Multichoice the umbrella company for DSTV and GoTV to offer free one month subscription to Nigerian customers but also fined the company N150m
The rulings were delivered on Friday, 7th June, 2024 by a three-man panel led by Justice Thomas Okosu.
In April 2024, the CCPT sitting in Abuja, following an ex-parte motion moved by Ejiro Awaritoma, who served as the counsel for the applicant, Festus Onifade, had ordered Multichoice Nigeria to refrain from increasing its tariffs and costs of services that the company was set to begin on May 1 2024.

The order, given by a three-member panel headed by Saratu Shafii, said, “The 1st defendant is hereby restrained from taking any step(s) that may negatively affect the rights of the claimant and other consumers in respect of the suit pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”
However, Multichoice increased its service charge despite the court order, arguing that Onifade lacks the jurisdiction to regulate the prices of goods and services as he is not the President of Nigeria.
The price, which took effect form May 1, 2024, saw DStv Premium package increased from N29,500 to N37,000. Similarly, the Compact+ went up from N19,800 to N25,000 while the Compact package increased from N12,500 to N15,700. The Comfam package moved from N7,400 to N9,300.
Lowest packages yanga and Padi moved from N4,500 to N5,100 and from N2,950 to N3,600 respectively.
