Super Eagles forward Alex Iwobi was on the losing side with his English Premier League side Everton Sunday afternoon as they lost 1-0 to West Ham United in his 50th start in an Everton jersey.
Iwobi was in action for 79 minutes at the Goodison Park before he was substituted by youngster Anthony Gordon.
West Ham’s goal was scored by Italy international of Nigerian heritage, Angelo Ogbonna in the 74th minutes just five minutes before Iwobi was subbed off.
Iwobi had two chances to score for the Merseysiders with his swiveling effort four minutes into the second half the closest he came to scoring. On that occasion though he was not able to connect with Andy Gray’s pass from six yards out.
Iwobi pulled out of Nigeria’s 2022 World Cup qualifiers against the Central African Republic due to injury but passed a late fitness test to make the cut for Sunday’s clash with the west Londoners.
The defeat means the Toffees have lost their 100%record at home under manager Rafa Benitez.
Iwobi had prior to Sunday’s game started 40 times for his club in the Premier League, and was named in the starting lineup for Carabao Cup and FA Cup matches eight and two times respectively.
