Nigerian Navy has arrested eight stowaways and rescued eight victims of human trafficking, as well as two fishermen who were drowning at sea.
According to a statement released by the Navy’s spokesperson, Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, the operation was carried out by the Navy’s patrol vessel, NNS Beecroft, which intercepted a suspicious vessel off the coast of Lagos.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelHe said the Navy team discovered eight stowaways hiding in the vessel, who claimed to be attempting to illegally migrate to Europe. Further investigation revealed that the vessel was also carrying eight victims of human trafficking, who were being transported to an unknown destination.
In another development, the Navy team also rescued two fishermen who were drowning in the sea after their boat capsized. The fishermen, who were identified as Michael John and Emmanuel Samuel, were pulled from the water and received medical attention on board the Navy vessel.
The Navy’s spokesperson praised the bravery and quick thinking of the officers, who risked their lives to save the fishermen and foil the human trafficking operation.
“This operation is a testament to the Navy’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of Nigerians,” Oyegade said.

The suspects and victims are currently being held at the Navy’s base in Lagos, where they are receiving medical attention and counseling. The Navy has vowed to continue to patrol the nation’s waters to prevent illegal activities and ensure the safety of all Nigerians.
The operation is a significant blow to human traffickers and illegal migrants, who have been using Nigeria’s water ways to carry out their nefarious activities.
