The Super Eagles of Nigeria have landed in Abidjan, the Ivorian capital, ahead of their World Cup qualifier against the Squirrels of Benin Republic.
The Finidi George tutored side, hit the Ivorian capital on Sunday aboard Value Jet. After playing out a 1-1 draw against South Africa, in a match described as disappointing by some fans on Friday, the Eagles are condemned to beat Squirrels to pocket the three points at stake, if they wish to make progress in their qualification bid for the 2026 World Cup, to be hosted by USA and Canada.

The Super Eagles’ last win in a World Cup qualifier was a 2-0 triumph over Liberia at the Grand Stade de Tanger, Morocco, in November 2021.

Victor Osimhen and Ahmed Musa, were the goal scorers for Nigeria on the day, with Gernot Rohr still in charge of the Super Eagles bench.
Osimhen and Musa are not in the squad for the game against Rohr’s Benin on Monday.
Interestingly, the Eagles will be battling against their former coach, Rohr, in tomorrow’s showdown. Rohr boasts of good knowledge of Eagles and African football.
There are strong indications that Leverkusen forward, Victor Boniface, who missed the clash against South Africa in Uyo, will be in action against Benin to add to the speed and ruggedness that the Eagles will need in their quest to remedy the situation.
South Africa, who have a point ahead of Nigeria in Group C, will face Zimbabwe on Tuesday with a view to consolidating.
