Ayra Starr Becomes African Artist With Most Spotify Listeners

Ayra Starr has made history by surpassing Tyla to become the African artist with the most monthly listeners on Spotify. As of June 4, 2024, Ayra boasts of 31,406,881 monthly listeners, edging out Tyla’s 31,223,494.

This milestone places Ayra Starr amongst other African music giants like Wizkid, CKay, Burna Boy, Tems, and Rema, who have all previously held the record for the most monthly listeners on Spotify. CKay reached 30 million monthly listeners in 2021 with his global hit “Love Nwantiti,” while Rema set a record of 34 million monthly listeners in 2023 with “Calm Down.”

The surge in Ayra Starr’s listeners can be attributed to the success of her second album, “The Year I Turned 21.” This 15-track album, featuring mega artists like Seyi Vibez, Asake, Giveon, Coco Jones, Aniita, and Milar, has received critical acclaim and set a new record for the most opening day Spotify streams for an album by a Nigerian female artist.
