The Patriots Anti-Corruption Initiative (T-PACI) has announced that it will organise a maritime stakeholders summit in June 2024.

With the theme, “Challenges in the Maritime Industry, effect of corruption, the Role of Government and other Stakeholders in the way forward,” the summit is set to rally stakeholders and professionals to a roundtable to reflect on the challenges faced in various facets of the industry and proffer solutions for better service delivery.

According to National President of T-PACI, Chief Stephen Chigozie Ibe, the summit is also being organised to sensitise the public that tackling the scourge of corruption is not an exclusive duty of the government but every citizen must be patriotic enough to identify corrupt activities and take appropriate actions aimed at discouraging or stopping it going forward.

Ibe said: “Our objective is to sensitize the public that corruption is not government duty only; that everyone can work together to eliminate corruption out of our dear nation. So, everybody that is a patriot in this country, no matter who you are and where you belong to, can fight corruption, we have to save this country.”

Chief Ibe said T-PACI is equally using the summit to create awareness about the need to reform the maritime industry and reduce corruption to the barest minimum in order to serve the nation well.

He said the group has written to various stakeholders and government agencies in the maritime industry such as the Nigeria Customs Service, the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) among others, seeking their support, and was waiting for their responses.

“We are calling on all stakeholders, in the maritime industry to join hands in fighting corruption because where we are today, what we are seeing in the industry, corruption ratio is very high,” Ibe stated.
