FOSAD Demands Thorough Investigation Into Ebonyi Varsity Female Student’s Death

The Forum of South East Academic Doctors (FOSAD) has called for a thorough investigation into the death of a female student who was said to have committed suicide in Ebonyi State University (EBSU).

FOSAD expressed concern over the unfortunate incident and extended  heartfelt condolences to the family, friends of the deceased student.

The deceased identified as Favour Ugwuka, reportedly committed suicide after repeatedly failing a particular course. The lecturer identified as Prof Amechi Uneke Enyi had vowed that she would never pass the course. She later went into depression after several attempts to pass and took her own life.

In a press release signed by FOSAD President, Dr Stephen Nwala and Secretary General, Dr Uzor Ngoladi, the union demanded that the management of Ebonyi State University should initiate a comprehensive investigation into issues surrounding the case.

It also called for support to the family and friends of the deceased and urged the university to establish mechanisms against victimisation or harassment, provide resources for mental health and promote respect, integrity and empathy within the university community.

FOSAD also urged all stakeholders to work together to make sure such incident never happens again.
