Olympics Qualifier: 18 Players In Super Falcons Camp For South Africa

The winners of the two-legged fixtures will play in the Olympics

The camp of the Super Falcons is a beehive of activities as a total number of 18 players have reported for Friday’s first leg tie of the 2024 Olympics qualifier against the Bayana Bayana of South Africa on Friday at the MKO Abiola stadium Abuja, reports Prime Business Africa.

Nigeria reached this last round of qualifiers after overcoming Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses in the penultimate stage while South Africa had to beat Rwanda to get to this stage.

The quartet of Halimat Ayinde, Mitchelle Alozoe, Toni Payne and Rinsola Babajide were the latest arrivals late Tuesday night.

The winners over two legs – with the return leg slated for next week Wednesday – will qualify for the women’s football tournament of the Olympics this autumn in Group C that contains Brazil, Spain and Japan.

The Nigeria women’s team are hoping to qualify for the tournament for the first time in 16 years after their last appearance in the 2008 Games in Beijing.

Before the arrival of the latest Falcons in camp, the early birds includes:

Linda Jiwuaku, Chidinma Okeke, Osinachi Ohale,Oladipo Shukurat, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Osinachi Ohale, Toni Payne, Uchenna Kanu, Ifeoma Onomonu, Rasheedat Ajibade, Gift Monday, Deborah Abiodun, Jennifer Echegini and Christy Ucheibe.

Saudi Arabia-based defender Ashleigh Plumptre who copped an injury for her club i n a league game had been replaced by Jumoke Alani.

Meanwhile five-time African Footballer of the Year winner Asisat Oshoala is expected to arrive the Super Falcons camp on Thursday for the game.
