Saudi Arabia, Spain and Amnesty International among others have expressed support for the United Nations’ Security Council (UNSC) resolution calling for an immediate ceasfire in Gaza.
Th UNSC on Monday passed a resolution demanding cessation of hostilities between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza.

The US has used its veto power three times to block the resolution from sailing through.

The resolution also demands the release of all hostages seized in the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on October 7.
Saudi Arabia Hails UNSC Resolution
Reacting to the development, Saudi’s foreign ministry said the UNSC resolution is a welcome development that would lead to permanent and sustainable solution to the conflict betweeen Israel and Palestine.
“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia welcomes the issuance of the UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during the holy month of Ramadan, leading to a permanent and sustainable ceasefire and the release of all hostages,” the Saudi foreign ministry said in a post on X.
UNSC Resolution in Line with Spain’s Position – PM
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, said the UNSC resolution is in line with the position the country had taken since the conflict began on October 7.
He said it is imperative that the resolution be implemented to allow access to humanitarian aid in Gaza.
“I welcome the Security Council resolution @UN demanding a ceasefire in Gaza and the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.
“The UN mandate is in line with what Spain has defended since the beginning of the conflict.
“It is imperative that the resolution be implemented and humanitarian aid access be allowed,” the post written in Spanish but translated by Google to read The English.
It added that: “The materialization of the two States, lsrael and Palestine, coexisting in peace and security, is the only realistic and viable solution for the region.”
Commenting on the resolution, UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, said failure to implement the resolution “would be unforgivable.”
Amnesty International Seek permanent Ceasefire
Amnesty International said the resolution should pave for permanent ceasefire.
“The adopted UN resolution is long overdue. The resolution must pave way for an enduring ceasefire to alleviate mass suffering in Gaza,” the international human rights wrote via X.
Palestinian Leaders welcome the Resolution
Palestinian leaders hailed the resolution, saying it is a step in the right direction.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement called on UNSC member states to work on a achieving a permanent ceasefire that extends beyond Ramadan period.
Hamas Welcomes Ceasefire Deal
On its part, Hamas welcomed the resolution, affirming in a statement that it is ready “to engage in immediate prisoner swaps on both sides.”
Since then, over 30,000 people—including 21,000 women and children—have died in Gaza, according to the health ministry headed by Hamas. More 70,000 people have also been injured, and about 7,000 individuals have gone missing.
The October 7 attack by Hamas left over 1,100 Israelis dead and the outrage led to the current offensive by Israel which says it wasn’t eliminate Hamas in Gaza.
