US 2024: Trump Challenges Biden To Debates

Twenty four hours after both emerged as presidential candidates for the November general election, former United States president, Donald Trump, has challenged his successor, Joe Biden, to TV debates.

The outcome of the Super Tuesday primaries held in 15 states across the country saw Trump displacing his main rival, Nikki Haley thereby becoming the Republican Party nominee to challenge Biden, who won the Democratic Party nomination for the White House seat.

In a post online, Trump said he is ready to take part in a TV debate with the Democratic Party president “anytime, anywhere, anyplace”

“It is important, for the Good of our Country, that Joe Biden and I Debate Issues that are so vital to America, and the American People,” Mr Trump posted on his social media website, Truth Social.

Trump went on to say that the Commission on Presidential Debates, which has been in charge of presidential debates for the past 30 years, or the Democratic National Committee could oversee such events.

Mr  Trump said that the debate commission was a “subsidiary” of the Democratic party, despite the fact that it describes itself as nonpartisan and is accused of prejudice by conservatives.

In response, Biden’s campaign team berated Trump saying he was “thirsty for attention and struggling to expand his appeal.”

Mr Trump, 77, has maintained that Biden, 81, is too old and forgetful to engage in meaningful argument. In response, Mr. Biden said Mr. Trump is the one who is mentally retarded.

No debates have so far been agreed ahead of November’s election as the Biden campaign did not say whether he would participate in a debate against Mr Trump.

Mr Biden and Mr Trump debated each other twice during the 2020 election.

Some observers say that Biden’s unwillingness to participate in debates may raise questions about his mental clarity.
