D’Tigress’ 2021 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket victory described as a worthy independence day gift to Nigerians, IPOB declares removal of Nigerian flag and sit-at-home in the southeast and the return of Jameson Connect on October 1, 2021.

Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team D’Tigress with a scoring of 59 -70 defeated Mali in the final match of the 2021 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket, retaining the title for the third time in a roll. This win according to the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare is a worthy independence day gift to Nigerians. This statement was made at the reception held in honour of the victorious team at the VIP Lounge of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Abuja on Monday, September 27.

Dare commended the girls for putting the country on the global map of basketball while promising that the ministry will move forward working closely with the Nigerian Basketball Federation to further develop the game in the country. He went on to thank “each and every player, those that went to the Olympics, those that went to Senegal, and those that went to Cameron. That entire team has always done this country proud and I know that they have more victories ahead of them.”

D’Tigress won their first trophy in 2017, Bamako, claiming their second title in Dakar Senegal 2019.

The Indigenous People of Biafra in a statement from the Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, has declared a no movement within the southeast on October 1 which is the celebration of Nigeria’s independence, as a sign of their rejection of “the evil construct” called Nigeria. The separatist group has also directed its members to take down all Nigerian flags anywhere throughout the southeast, with effect from September 25 while stressing for strict adherence to all directives to avoid regret.
