Eyewitnesses revealed that the bandits, armed with sophisticated weapons, laid an ambush on the road, leading to a tragic chase and fatal gunfire. The Onikun of Ikun Ekiti lamented the loss, emphasizing the urgent need for a localized security approach involving traditional rulers.

In a revelation, the Civil Society Joint Action Group disclosed alarming statistics, asserting that 17,469 Nigerians were abducted under the administrations of Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Tinubu since 2019. The group’s Executive Director emphasized that 90% of these cases occurred during Buhari’s tenure, urging a collective effort to address the persisting insecurity.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, condemned the attack, ordering security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators. He expressed condolences and pledged a thorough investigation into the heinous crime. The governor underscored his commitment to employing technology for crime prevention and supporting security agencies.

Meanwhile, Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba, Gani Adams, criticized the South-West governors for not collaborating with local security outfits, highlighting the need for a united front against insecurity. The Osun State Commander, Amotekun Corps, echoed the sentiment, calling for strengthened regional security and stricter penalties for kidnappers.

Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, urged President Tinubu to take decisive action against rising insecurity. The group’s Organising Secretary demanded increased vigilance from security forces and emphasized the necessity of arming regional security outfits.

As netizens express outrage on social media, concerns over the deteriorating security situation in the country grow.

The tragic incident in Ekiti serves as a poignant reminder of the urgent need for collaborative efforts, technological advancements, and strategic measures to curb the escalating wave of abductions and violence plaguing the nation.
