In a move towards sustainable energy, the Edo State Government has announced plans to install charging stations across strategic locations, laying the groundwork for the introduction of electric vehicles in the initial phase of its clean energy initiative.

The announcement came during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oando Clean Energy Limited, marking a moment in the state’s commitment to environmentally friendly practices.

The MoU encompasses various clean energy projects, including the introduction of an electric bus transit service and the development of 175MW wind energy project.

Governor Godwin Obaseki, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq., expressed the government’s dedication to providing every community in Edo State with access to clean energy.

In his words, “Clean energy is the future, and we are proud to be at the forefront among the states. We have found a valuable partner in Oando Energy, and we assure everyone that we will uphold our end of the agreement.”

Dr. Ojeifoh Enaholo, the Edo State Commissioner for Mining and Energy, revealed that the electric bus scheme would roll out gradually, starting with five buses in the initial phase. Charging stations equipped with all necessary facilities for the vehicle batteries will be strategically installed across the state.

Highlighting the broader scope of the clean energy initiative, Dr. Enaholo announced a pilot scheme for the 175MW wind energy project. This move aims to revolutionize the electricity sector in Edo State, marking a significant stride towards a sustainable and eco-friendly future.
