Kaduna Refinery: The Role Of Local Refining In Nigeria's Fuel Economy

In a development, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Nigeria has marked a pivotal milestone as seven major oil marketers, including 11 Plc, Conoil Plc, Ardova Plc, MRS Oil Nigeria Plc, OVH Energy Marketing Limited, Total Nigeria Plc, and NNPC Retail, have registered with the refinery for the lifting and distribution of its refined petroleum products.

Confirming the registration, Clement Isong, the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN), stated, “I confirm that my members have registered with them. We were waiting for the production to start, and now that it has started, they will start discussing the commercial terms.”

Isong emphasized that MOMAN members would have the products in their stations as soon as they become available for sale.

Notably, the Dangote refinery can load 2,900 trucks a day at its state-of-the-art truck-loading gantries. The refinery’s products adhere to Euro V specifications, meeting global emission norms.

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) also disclosed plans to engage with the refinery management this week to discuss terms of product loading.

Additionally, the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria highlighted ongoing engagements between PETROAN and the refinery for the supply of products.

“The important thing was the registration. So now the commercial terms will be agreed with each marketer, and then they will buy from them,”

Isong explained, emphasizing that commercial terms discussions are crucial before the commencement of fuel distribution.

This development signals a collaborative stride towards meeting Nigeria’s energy needs, as major players gear up to actively participate in the distribution network of the $20 billion Dangote Petroleum Refinery.
