Manchester City on Friday evening defeated South America representatives, Fluminense 4-0 to win their maiden FIFA Club World Cup in a dominant display.

City grabbed the first goal via forward Julian Alvarez barely 30 seconds into the final.

Nino conceded an own goal and gifted the Europeans their second goal when Phil Foden’s innocuous pullout deflected off his feet and looped over the goalkeeper.

Foden then made it 3-0 before Alvarez rounded off the evening with his brace in the closing stages of the one-sided contest.

Manchester United and Chelsea have won the Club World Cup in the past as European clubs have won 22 consecutive games in the competition but recent poor form in the domestic scene by Pep Guardiola’s men had raised some hopes for the Brazilian side.

In the 3rd/4th place final, African flagbearers Al Ahly romped to a 4-2 win over Urawa Red Diamonds to win the bronze medal being the first time an African team will claim it.
