Lagos Govt Orders Immediate Evacuation Of Tankers, Trailers At Apapa-Oshodi Expressway

In a move aimed at curbing incessant gridlocks and traffic disruptions along the Apapa-Oshodi expressway, the Lagos State Government has issued a directive mandating the immediate evacuation of tankers and trailers from the Cele Bus Stop Inward Tin Can Port axis.

This decision comes in the wake of persistent challenges faced by commuters navigating through the congested route.

Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser on Transportation to the Lagos State Governor, emphasized the significance of this directive in addressing the ongoing congestion and enhancing the mobility experience for residents and commuters in the affected area.

In a statement, Giwa asserted, “The directives underscore the commitment of the state government to ensuring the smooth flow of traffic and minimizing disruptions caused by the persistent presence of these heavy-duty vehicles.”

Highlighting the paramount importance of a clear and unobstructed road network for public safety, the government warned tanker and trailer drivers to adhere to the directive or face sanctions as per the State Transport Reform Law.

This proactive step by the government echoes its previous warnings to port operators and drivers regarding parking along major roads.

A few months ago, the government issued a final warning to petroleum tanker and container truck drivers to vacate the Mile-2 axis of the Oshodi-Apapa expressway, signaling an intent to enforce compliance through arrests by its task force.

In response to the directive, a representative of the truckers’ association, John Adekunle, expressed concerns about the lack of designated parking spaces for their vehicles but acknowledged the need to cooperate with the government to find a lasting solution.

This decisive action signifies the government’s determination to alleviate traffic congestion and streamline the movement of vehicles along crucial transport corridors, underscoring its commitment to improving the overall transportation experience for Lagosians.
