Nigeria international, Taiwo Awoniyi, is currently out injured and recuperating but would be working with a new head coach at Nottingham Forest when he returns from his setback.

Forest on Tuesday evening announced the sacking of Steve Cooper as manager following indifferent performances so far this season.

The onetime European champions in the old European Championship (now UEFA Champions League) have lost five of their last six games in all competitions under Cooper who bought the Nigerian duo of Awoniyi and Emmanuel Dennis.

In his stead, Forest have almost wrapped negotiations with Nuno Espirinto Santos who was coach at Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

“His achievement in guiding Forest back will undoubtedly remain an iconic moment in the club’s history,” said owner Evangelos Marinakis in a statement.

“We thank Steve for his dedication and commitment during his time with us, as well as the incredible connection he forged with our supporters and the city of Nottingham.

“Steve will always remain a friend of the club and will forever be welcome at the City Ground. We wish him well in his future endeavours.”

The 44-year-old Cooper led the team to promotion from the Championship two seasons ago but recent results have not reflected the manner in which he was loved by the fanbase.
