Oyo State Govt Approves Contract For 84.7km Ibadan Inner Road, Other Initiatives

In a move following Governor ‘Seyi Makinde’s pledge to revamp internal roads in Ibadan, the Oyo State government has approved contracts for the reconstruction and repair of inner-city roads within the Ibadan metropolis, covering a span of 84.75km.

At the 8th Executive Council Meeting, the state government approved multiple infrastructure projects to be undertaken by companies including KOPEK, RATCON Construction Company Ltd, Messrs Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Ltd, and Craneburg Construction Company.

During a press briefing at the Secretariat, Government House, Agodi, Ibadan, the Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Prof. Daud Shangodoyin, unveiled the scope of these endeavors. “We have approved contracts for the rehabilitation and construction of various internal roads in Ibadan totaling 84.75km,” he affirmed.

Shangodoyin provided insight into the extensive road rehabilitation planned by the Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA), amounting to N553,604,734.3 for a three-month timeframe.

Additionally, he updated on the Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road Project, citing significant progress on bridges and interchanges, with over 90% completion.

Approval was granted for the initiation of the 32km road infrastructure section, awarded to Messrs Craneburg Construction Company Limited and Messrs KOPEC Construction Company Limited.

Meanwhile, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, announced the state government’s approval of N2,791,569,918.28 for the 2023 Federal Government UBEC-OYOSUBEB special intervention counterpart fund. This allocation includes N1 billion for the upgrade and launch of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo.

Moreover, Dr. Olatunbosun shared that the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) had conferred global status upon the annual Sango Festival as a world heritage, emphasizing its cultural significance.

Commissioner Shangodoyin outlined the detailed plans for road improvements, stating, “We considered and approved five briefs in the area of infrastructure.” He delineated the specific roads and companies assigned to their reconstruction and rehabilitation under OYSROMA’s purview.

The Commissioner also highlighted the approval for an N150bn AFREXIMBank and Access Bank facility by the Ministry of Finance, earmarked to finance the Circular Road and generate subsequent revenue for the state upon completion.

Furthermore, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs. Toyin Balogun, disclosed the compensation of N645 million for 692 residents of the Ajia community whose land was acquired by the government for developmental purposes.

The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Prof. Musibau Babatunde, shared updates on the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) program, noting that 526 residents had received loans amounting to N152,475,000 across the state’s geopolitical zones.

However, the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, highlighted the approval for establishing the Oyo State Rule of Law Authority, aimed at promoting adherence to legal frameworks among citizens and residents.
