Chelsea survived a scare from resilient Brighton Hoves and Albion to win 3-2 Sunday evening despite going one man down following the sending off of midifelder Conor Gallagher.

The West London side has had a stuttering start to the season and are currently 10th in the Premier League standings.

The club’s owner Todd Boelhy watched proceedings from the directors’ box as Mauricio Pochettino’s men generally had a great game barring some nervy moments from goalkeeper Victor Sanchez.

Chelsea benefitted from a couple corner kicks from which they scored first through Enzo Fernandez who headed in his first Premier League goal of the season.

Shortly afterwards it was a near carbon copy, Nicolas Jackson heading back into danger for Levi Colwill to net his first Chelsea goal.

The Goal Decision System (GDS)  or Goal Line Technology was needed to confirm that the ball had crossed the line.

Things got more complicated for the Blues just before the break, though, when Facundo Buonanotte pulled one back for the Seagulls and then Gallagher was sent off after receiving a second booking after bringing down Brighton midfielder Billy Gilmour and stopping a counter-attack.

Chelsea will consequently be without Gallagher for Wednesday’s trip to Manchester United in the second of a three-game run in the space of one week.

Chelsea held on with their numerical disadvantage albeit Joao Pedro pulled one back for Brighton.
