Although no injury or fatality was recorded, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, an agency of the Federal Government, confirmed that the aircraft got involved in a “serious accident” around 10:47 am upon arriving at the NAIA from Lagos.

“The incident at the Abuja runway caused significant disruptions, affecting flight operations nationwide,” Minister Kayemo stated on his post on X page (formerly Twitter).

“This underscores the urgent need for the construction of the Abuja second runway, a matter I prioritized upon assuming office as the Aviation Minister. We’ve recently made progress in securing the land, and construction commenced just two weeks ago.”

The Minister emphasized the necessity of the second runway, pointing out the crucial role it would play in preventing such incidents in future and also, ensuring smoother air traffic operations. This incident further highlights the pressing need for infrastructural developments in the aviation sector to enhance safety and efficiency.
