Meta’s instant messaging app, WhatsApp has unveiled a feature that allows users to simultaneously log in to two accounts on a single device. This development means that users can bid farewell to the hassle of carrying two phones, although a second SIM card is essential to create the second account.

WhatsApp users looking to set up their second account can simply navigate to the app’s settings, click on the arrow adjacent to their name, and select “Add account.”

This feature ensures that managing personal and work accounts becomes significantly more efficient.

Explaining the rationale behind this innovation, WhatsApp emphasized the need for users to maintain separate accounts for work and personal activities.

In their announcement, they stated, “Today, we’re introducing the ability to have two WhatsApp accounts logged in at the same time. Helpful for switching between accounts – such as your work and personal – now you no longer need to log out each time, carry two phones, or worry about messaging from the wrong place.”

In addition to the dual account feature, WhatsApp introduced passkey support for Android users earlier this week.

This innovative security feature enables users to unlock their accounts using their face, fingerprint, or a PIN code, which offers a more secure and user-friendly alternative to traditional passwords.

Will Cathcart, Head of WhatsApp at Meta, explained that passkeys enhance account security and will be rolled out globally in the coming weeks.

WhatsApp’s move towards passkey logins aligns with the global tech industry’s trend of phasing out traditional passwords in favor of more secure and convenient authentication methods.

This trend is seen as a crucial step in mitigating security risks, as it requires potential hackers to have physical access to a user’s device for account access, making remote attacks considerably more challenging.
