Experts who gathered at the University of Lagos’ 3rd International Week conference have made a case for robust international cooperation in areas of research among others, as a way of transforming university education to have a greater impact going forward.
At the event which had the theme “Transnational Cooperation: The Future of Education,” Professor Jo Angouri from the University of Warwick in her keynote speech, asserted that, “Transnational cooperation is essential to breaking the borders of partnership and transforming education.”

She called for pedagogic innovations, forward-thinking policies, and value-added international strategies, all aimed at fostering continuous change and disruption in education.
The distinguished panel, including Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa, Professor Olumuyiwa Falaiye, Professor Peter McEleavy, and Mr. Adebisi Adeoti, echoed the sentiments of collaboration, highlighting the importance of embracing institutional diversity in forging partnerships.

The second panel, moderated by Dr. Arnim Heinemann of the University of Bayreuth, delved into the practicalities of such cooperation. Professors Kimberly Jacob Arriola, Abimbola Sowemimo, Kehinde Umeizudike, along with Dr. Lara Ojo and Dr. Adesina Arikawe, all from UNILAG, shared experiences that underscored the need for research-driven collaborations to tackle contemporary challenges.
Trust, proactiveness, productivity, mutual respect, responsibility, optimism, knowledge, and skills emerged as key elements in redefining and positioning tertiary education to meet future needs. This event has set a new direction for education, highlighting the exciting prospects of transnational cooperation as the cornerstone of the future.
