2027 Politics: PDP Blasts Wike for Supporting APC While Claiming Party Membership

December 30, 2025

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has launched a blistering attack on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of sustained anti-party activities and declaring that his recent public support for a presumptive All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the 2027 presidential election confirms the basis for his expulsion from the party.

In a statement released on Monday, December 29, 2025, following Wike’s end-of-year media chat, the PDP described the former Rivers State governor as a “permanent agent provocateur” whose actions, it said, undermine democratic norms and the collective interests of the opposition party.

The party said Wike openly declared himself the “number one supporter” of the APC’s expected 2027 presidential candidate while still laying claim to PDP membership, a posture it described as a clear case of anti-party conduct.

“This fact, which he has unashamedly reiterated in several places, is nothing less than a locus classicus of anti-democratic adventurism,” the statement said.

The PDP argued that Wike’s conduct was consistent with what it described as a long history of internal disruption within the party. It recalled his prominent roles in successive leadership crises, from the Ali Modu Sheriff era to the emergence and eventual removal campaigns against former national chairmen Uche Secondus and Dr Iyorchia Ayu.

According to the party, Wike’s actions in Rivers State while governor also reflected the same pattern, citing alleged imposition of candidates, exclusionary internal practices, and what it described as the unprecedented prevention of a duly nominated PDP presidential candidate from campaigning in a PDP-controlled state.

“Wike’s politics thrives on perpetual conflict, feeding on attention and seeking relevance through calculated disruption,” the party said, adding that his recent comments showed fear of losing the attention of the President and frustration with what it called the firm stance of the PDP’s national leadership.

The PDP further alleged that Wike and his associates had openly aligned with the APC to the detriment of the opposition party, accusing them of deliberately seeking to weaken the PDP as part of a political bargain.

Reaffirming its electoral prospects, the party assured Nigerians that it would field a credible presidential candidate for the 2027 elections, insisting that no individual had the capacity to personalise or destabilise the PDP.

The statement added that the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee was working to rebuild the party, resolve pending legal issues, and reposition it for electoral success ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The statement was signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong.
