The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has stated unequivocally that it has no intention of undermining Nigeria’s democracy, and that its mission is to democratically take power from the ruling All Progressives Congress and provide good leadership.
Interim National Publicity Secretary of ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, made the clarification in a statement released on Thursday.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelAbdullahi was reacting to an allegation made by Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu’s spokesman, that the opposition party was planning to overthrow Tinubu’s government before 2027.
Abdullahi described the allegation as a baseless and false narrative designed to suppress opposition leaders and activities under the guise of national security.

According to him, the party would present its vision and alternative solution to governance problems when it is time for voting, and leave the public to make their choice.
He expressed surprise at why the APC, which had previously played an active opposition role before taking power in 2015, has suddenly changed and now struggles to accommodate opposition, a key factor in a vibrant democracy.

Abdullahi called on Tinubu to warn his aides against making any more dangerous or unfounded allegations that could stoke the system even two years before the next election.
Additionally, he urged Nigerians to oppose any malicious attempts to silence dissenting opinions and undermine the opposition.
Nigeria’s democracy is dependent on a free, open, and competitive political environment, Abdullahi emphasized.
According to him, the ADC is still dedicated to fostering peace and democratic engagement in order to create a better Nigeria.
