2023: Transport Minister, Amaechi Declares Interest For Presidency

As political parties gear up for primaries ahead of 2023 general elections, Nigeria’s minister of transportation, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi has joined the list of aspirants for the position of president.

Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State, made his intention known on Saturday at at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, in the state.

He will slug it out with other presidential aspirants for the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming primaries of the party.

Amaechi stated that having served at various levels of government -local, state and federal, he has garnered vital experiences about governance and feels compelled to offe them for service of the nation to tackle the challenges of the country if elected as president.

He said, “I stand before you today to declare my intention and submit my application to serve as your next President.

“I did not come to this decision lightly. I have served our nation for the last seven years as Minister of Transportation. For eight years before that, I served as Governor of Rivers State. In the preceding eight years before that, I was Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

“These 23 years of service have equipped me not only with great experience in governance and public service but also compassion for the ordinary citizens of our dear country.”

The minister observed that Nigeria’s democracy needs a person with broad experience in public service and governance, knowledge of the needs of the ordinary citizens and an uncommon passion to unite different parts of the country.

He indicated that in the coming days and weeks, he will engage in consultations both with stakeholders and ordinary citizens to gain insight into their interests, needs and wants for the overall development of the country.
