2023 Polls: Gov Abiodun Wins Reelection Bid In Ogun

Prince Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the governorship election in Ogun State conducted on 18th March 2023.

The incumbent governor won in 12 Local Government Areas of the State to defeat his closest rival and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Ladi Adebutu, who won in eight Local Government Areas.

According to the INEC’s Returning Officer for the election, Prof Kayode Adebowale, the APC governorship candidate, Abiodun, emerged winner of the governorship election having polled a total of 276,298 votes against the PDP’s Adebutu, who scored a total of 262, 383 votes out of the entire 645,133 total votes cast.

Meanwhile, PDP has rejected the outcome, arguing that the number of cancelled votes is higher than the margin of lead between the two candidates in the election and ought to be declared inconclusive by the Returning Officer based on the relevant provision of the Electoral Act, 2022.
