2023 Elections: Nigerian Queen Ruqayyah, Student Union Presidents Speak On Role Of Women, Youths – PB_Africa Twitter Space Today

Two days to critical presidential election, reigning “Most Gorgeous Girl Nigeria (MGGN),” Queen Ruqayyah Adeboye, will be featuring on “Prime Business Africa (PBA) Leadership Series” on Twitter Space today, Thursday, 23rd February, 2023. She speaks on the “Role of Women and Youths in the 2023 general elections.”

Ruqayyah will be joined by Student Union Government (SUG) Presidents of two federal universities – University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Messrs Abuchi Michael and Charles Obinna respectively. Obinna will be represented by the SUG Secretary- General, Joel Ogbonnaya.

The Prime Business Africa Leadership Series on Twitter is hosted by Publisher, Dr Marcel Mbamalu and Ms Yetunde Asika, an International Rights Lawyer.

Indeed, the role Nigerian youths and women should play in the present political dispensation has been part of the discourse, just as a few political parties have made such demographics a major plank of their campaigns.

Data from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) indicate that youths represent an approximately 40 per cent of the total voting population and constitute the highest number of registered voters in the 2023 general elections.

By gender, 47.5 per cent of voters are females (women).

These demographic subsets, no doubt, have huge implication in the election and present the possibility of redefining the political landscape and its democratic process.

Queen Ruqayyah Adeboye, who will be the main guest at the PBA interactive programme, is a graduate of Law from the University of Maiduguri.

A Woman Rights Activist, Ruqayyah was crowned the Most Gorgeous Girl Nigeria (MGGN), Abuja in August 2022. She is also the Ambassador of National Museums Nigeria and the first Hijabi to clinch the titles.

The Executive Director of United Voice Advocates, a non-profit organisation which focuses on creating sustainable impacts in communities, particularly on raising capacity of individuals in their communities to aid the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, Ruqayyah is a gender advocate working on amplifying the campaign for the education of girl child, especially among the Muslim Faith.

As an Ambassador, Ruqayyah, who has also won numerous awards for her humanitarian roles, equally uses her platform to build and encourage young citizens to master their skills and be sustainably empowered.

Comrade Abuchi Michael, the UNN SUG President and Comrade Joel Ogbonnaya, SUG Secretary General of UniZik will be addressing the students perspectives regarding the prevailing economic challenges of Naira scarcity and high cost of transport that could restrict movement of many students to their voting areas.

Ogbonnaya is a penultimate law student of the Faculty of Law. He had previously served as Junior State Counsel in the Students’ Union Government’s Directorate of Justice.

He founded the “Ziklaw Writers” body and Convener of THE MAY PROJECT, a faculty-based literary association founded in 2019.

Ogbonnaya has also served as Senior Associate Online Editor of the “Nnamdi Azikiwe University Law Review.”
