Nigeria’s Super Falconets on Monday night got the better of the Cranes Queens of Uganda in the first semifinals of the women’s football tournament of the 13th African Games holding in Ghana, reports Prime Business Africa.
The Nigerian women beat the Ugandans 2-0 to advance to the final where they will face hosts Ghana on Thursday.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelThe Ugandans held their more illustrious opponents to a goalless first half but succumbed to the more superior firepower following the introduction of the duo of goalscorers, Judith Adah Okah and Chiamaka Okwuchukwu in the second half.
Okah and Okwuchukwu came in as substitutes on the second half in place of Motunrayo Ezekiel and Kehinde Shobowale.
Okah was the first to put Nigeria ahead in the 74th minute before Okwuchukwu came up with the back breaker with a minute left to play.
The Nigerian side have now scored eight goals so far in the tournament and conceded none.
In the second semifinals game, Ghana defeated Senegal 3-1 with goals from Tracy Twum and Ophelia Amponsah (brace) ensuring that the old rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria will be reenacted.
Senegal got what proved to be only a consolation goal in th 53rd minute through Kande but the young Teranga Lionesses were unable to conjure any more goals to force the game to extra time.
Senegal and Uganda will fight for a bronze medal title in the 3rd place final.
