“In the past week, 82 illegal refineries were discovered and destroyed,” the NNPCL asserted in a released video statement. “We remain steadfast in our commitment to eliminating oil theft and vandalism from our nation.”

The discovery included startling visuals of an oil pit directly connected to a crude source in Okrika, Rivers State. Furthermore, 20 illegal connections were found spanning across Rivers, Bayelsa, and Delta States, along with clusters of illegal refineries scattered throughout various locations in these states and Abia.

In addition to the refineries, the NNPCL unveiled the uncovering of several illegal storage sites across the Niger Delta region. Sacks and cans containing stolen crude oil were seized in Rivers and Edo States, highlighting the magnitude of the issue.

Despite intensified efforts, the NNPCL noted a concerning trend of escalating oil theft, which adversely affects Nigeria’s daily oil production. This persistent challenge underscores the importance of continuous vigilance and collaborative action between public and private entities.

“The increase in oil theft remains a significant concern,” remarked the NNPCL spokesperson. “We must redouble our efforts to safeguard our nation’s resources and ensure sustainable development.”

Amidst the crackdown, 52 suspects were apprehended in connection with the illicit activities, signaling a firm stance against impunity. The NNPCL further reiterated its determination to combat oil theft relentlessly.

The resolve of NNPCL aligns with broader efforts to address oil-related crimes and safeguard Nigeria’s vital resources. As the battle persists, the corporation remains steadfast in its mission to secure the nation’s oil infrastructure and protect its economic interests.
