The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed Senator Godswill Akpabio from South-south for Senate President, Senator Barau Jubrin from Northwest as Deputy Senate President for the 10th National Assembly.

The latest move confirms Prime Business Africa’s two exclusive reports on the matter.

The party picked Hon. Abass Tajudeen also from North West as Speaker, and Hon Ben Kalu from Southeast as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The Party made this known in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Barr. Felix Morka, on Monday

Mouka said the decision was made after the party’s NWC meeting on Monday to consider reports of consultations and meetings held with the President- Elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, other Party leaders and stakeholders on zoning arrangement for 10th National Assembly leadership positions.

The statement reads: “The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) met today, Monday, May 8, 2023 to consider reports of consultations and meetings held with the President- Elect, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, other Party leaders and stakeholders on zoning arrangement for 10th National Assembly leadership positions.

“The NWC noted with respect the outcome of the meetings held between the President-Elect and the leadership of the NWC. The NWC called for further and better consultation with necessary stakeholders to ensure the support of aspirants to the National Assembly leadership positions and members of the Party nationwide.”

The APC NWC urged other party leaders, members and all Nigerians “to continue to work for peace and progress of our country during and beyond the current period of leadership transition.”

Prime Business Africa had exclusively reported that Bola Tinubu chose Abass for Speaker of the House Representatives, and insisted on Akpabio for Senate President despite opposition from different quarters.

APC national chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, and other NWC memebrs had initially scheduled the meeting with the President-elect on Friday to consider the choices of aspirants. The meeting held and adjourned for a wider NWC meet to ratify the choices for National Assembly and Senate leaderships.

APC expects both chambers of the National Assembly to collectively honour the decision in their own elective choices, as the party won majority seats during the last election.

This has, however, raised questions as to how truly independent the legislative arm of government has been under the APC government.
