Withdraw El-Rufai’s Degree Certificate, ASUU Tells ABU Zaria

The  Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria  has asked the university to  withdraw the  degree certificate awarded to Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, over alleged attempt to illegally and forcefully  acquire lands belonging to the institution.

The lecturers in their  March 2, 2022 Resolution, following a Congress Meeting held at the Abdullahi Smith Lecture Theatre, accused  Governor El-Rufai  of  ”utterly disregarding” a court order and going ahead to seize lands at the Mando College of Agriculture and Animal Science.

The Resolution, a copy of which was obtained by Prime Business Africa  late Thursday night, was co-signed by  the Chairman  and Secretary of the ABU Zaria Chapter of ASUU, Haruna M. Jibril and Hussein A. Abdullahi.

ASUU said the Kaduna State  governor, ”in utter disregard of an order  by a competent court of law”, took over  lands belonging  to the Ahmadu Bello University, ”an institution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and a historic and premier university.

”The Congress thus resolved to:

1. Visit the Mando College of Agriculture and Animal Science where the lands are to register its protest over the illegal land siezure.
2. Issue an advisory to the relevant organs of Ahmadu Bello University to formally withdraw the degree certificate awarded to Nasir El-Rufai by the University as his many actions are in contravention of the requirements in character and learning deemed worthy of ABU degree award.”   Available records on El-Rufai’s academic qualification indicate that he attended Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria and received a bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying with first class honours. In 1984, he also received a Master of Business Administration from the same university.
