Why Chief Justice Of Nigeria Muhammad Resigned

Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Tanko Mohammad has resigned his office citing health challenges as the reason behind his resignation.

Sources that confirmed the CJN’s resignation said the most senior Justice of the Supreme Court, Olukayode Ariwoola is expected to take over in acting capacity.

Justice Muhammad’s resignation comes 18 months ahead of his official retirement in December 2023 when he will reach 70 years.

Untill his resignation, Justice Muhammad has reportedly been ill. 

Muhammad’s resignation is coming one week after reports of leaked memo by justices of the Supreme Court to him drawing attention tos issues that borders on their welfare which he was said to have left unattended to for a while.
