We’ll Embark On Two-day Protest If FG Fails To Comply – NLC

The Nigeria Labour Congress says it has finalised plans to embark on a two-day nationwide protest slated for February 27 and February 28, 2024.

NLC said the protest would take place next week if the Federal Government fails to respond to the demands of organised labour after the expiration of the 14-day ultimatum issued which will expire on February 23.

National President of NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, who made this known during a media briefing, said the decision followed an emergency National Executive Council meeting on the state of the economy and matters related to insecurity in the country.

Prime Business Africa reports that both NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) had on February 8, given a two-week ultimatum to the government to meet the demands such as increase of minimum wage, palliative adjustment, and improved access to public utilities, among others.

In a joint statement the labour unions also accused the government of failing to uphold its promises on improving the welfare of workers in the face of the current economic hardship caused by the ongoing reforms like the fuel subsidy removal which led to hike in costs of things.
