Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Mr Peter Obi, on Saturday, visited Anambra and Bayelsa states to sympathize with flood victims.
In Anambra, Obi visited Ogbaru Local Government Area which has many communities sacked by floods.
Obi said his visit to Ogbaru followed the devastation caused by the perennial flood which ravaged the people.
”These people incurred indescribable losses ranging from loss of farms and livestock, temporal displacement from their homes and total destruction of their sources of livelihood,” Oseloka Henry Obaze, who was on Obi’s entourage said. Obaze, a diplomat, who is also the deputy director/general manager of the OBIDATTI Campaign Organisation, hails from Ogbaru Local Government.
Also in Obi’s entourage was Dr Tony Nwoye, who is the Labour Party candidate for the Anambra North Senatorial District.
On hand to receive Obi and his entourage were the Ogbaru Local Government Transition Committee Chairman, Mr Paschal Aniegbuna, the Ogbaru Flood Committee Chairman, Chief Ben Nwasike, Ogbaru Local Government Labour Party Chairman, Prince Emeka Nwosu, the Ogbaru Federal Constituency Labour Party Candidate, Hon. Afam Ogene, Anambra State House of Assembly candidates 1&2 , Mr Bewin Ezenwammadu abd Barr Nonso Nwaebili, and other LP officials.
The Ogbaru Traditional Rulers Council was represented by Igwe Nwafili of Akili-Ogidi and Ogbaru Presidents-General.
The Mayor of Ogbaru was full of praises for Mr Obi and his team, who handed cash gifts and other relief items to the flood victims, many of who are currently accommodated in different IDP camps in the local government area.
Obaze said the major essence of Obi’s visit was in furtherance and redemption of Obi’s nationwide promise to suspend his campaign and begin to visit the people currently suffering as a result of the devastation occasioned by this year’s ravaging flood in all the affected states nationwide.
Mr Peter Obi promised to come to the aid of the people through various means possible, including liaising with different agencies of government and international organisations.
He also visited Umueri Anambra East Local Government Area to empathize with victims of the floods.
Obi also took an aerial tour of the disaster area to have a holistic view of the extent of the disaster on communities and the flood victims.
