UPDATE: Ticket Sales For Chris Rock’s Show Skyrocket After Oscars Slap

Tickets sales for Chris Rock’s upcoming show, “Ego Death World Tour” have hit the roofs, one ticketing site, TickPick has hinted.

This upside came on the heels of the slap, which the comedian received from one of Hollywood’s finest, Will Smith on the Oscars stage on Sunday night over a joke Rock made about the actor’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

TickPick tweeted on Monday: “We sold more tickets to see Chris Rock overnight than we did in the past month combined.”

Rock had announced the tour on Instagram on February 23, promising “all-new material” and an “introspective” programme that would be “very personal and very funny.”

The secondary ticketing marketplace, explained that they have sold more tickets to the comedian’s tour in the last 24 hours than they have in the previous month combined. It also confirmed that ticket prices have risen significantly since Sunday night, rising from a low of $46 per ticket on March 18 to a low of $341 on Monday.

Reportedly, from March 30 to April 1, Rock will perform six gigs at Boston’s Wilbur Theatre before launching his “Ego Death World Tour” on April 2. While tickets for his Boston performances sold out quickly, resale sites such as Vivid Seats, Ticketmaster, and Stubhub still have tickets available. For the North American leg of his tour, the comedian will visit more than 30 cities, marking the first time in five years that he will perform fresh material across the country.

The tour presently has 38 concerts planned, including stops in Las Vegas, Denver, Oakland, Seattle, New York, Chicago, and Toronto. After Boston, he’ll perform two gigs at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City before ending up on Nov. 17 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

According to Live Nation in a statement: “Chris Rock is one of our generation’s best comic voices, lauded by peers and critics alike.”

“As a comedian, actor, writer, producer, and director, Rock has had ongoing success in both film and television for more than three decades,” Live Nation said.

Chris Rock had earned a slap from the Smiths after the comedian tried to make a comedy out of the receded hair of the Smiths matriarch, Jada. Before Will Smith’s public apology, netizens had called for his head for the alleged assault but Rock went the gentleman way, refusing to bow to social media pressure to press charges.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department: “In a statement to Variety after the Oscars telecast, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) confirmed that Rock had declined to file a police report.”

The LAPD added: “LAPD investigative entities are aware of an incident between two individuals during the Academy Awards programme. The incident involved one individual “Mr. William Smith” slapping another, “Mr. Chris Rock.” The individual involved has declined to file a police report.”

“If the involved party desires a report at a later date, LAPD will be available to complete its investigative report as the file is open,” the police station said.
