Exclusive: U.S Confirms Attack On Security Advance Team In Anambra, 4 Killed

A United States Mission Nigeria Spokesperson has confirmed Prime Business Africa’s exclusive report that its security advance team was attacked killing at least four personnel in Anambra State on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

Responding to a special inquiry by PBA  shortly before the newspaper broke the news on Tuesday night, the U.S Nigeria Mission spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying that some personnel were attacked and that the Mission was working with security services to investigate the matter.

According to the spokesperson, the security of the U.S. Mission personnel remains paramount and the Mission takes extensive precautions when organizing trips to the field.

“Dear (Prime Business Africa), Thank you for your inquiry.  We confirm there was an incident on May 16 in Anambra state,” the U.S. Nigeria Mission response to the PBA inquiry reads.

  “U.S. Mission Nigeria personnel are working with Nigerian security services to investigate.  The security of our personnel is always paramount, and we take extensive precautions when organizing trips to the field.  We have no further comment at this time.”

Mr Christian Osagie Aburime, the Chief Press Secretary to Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, had in response to a query by Prime Business Africa, said he was not aware of the development and would need to confirm the incident and revert to our correspondent.

Meanwhile, PBA authoritatively gathered that the incident took place on Tuesday and four personnel were killed in the unfortunate attack.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
