Two Soldiers Killed In Gun Attack At Military Location In Enugu

Two soldiers were killed in gun battle with unknown gunmen at a military check-point in Adani, Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State.

A statement issued on Wednesday by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu identified the attackers as members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

According to Nwachukwu, the incident occurred when the troops were trying to repel an attack by the ESN on troops’ location at Iggah/Asaba checkpoint.

Part of the statements reads: “sadly, during the firefight that ensued, two soldiers paid the supreme price. Troops are currently on the trail of the criminals,” Nwachukwu said

According to one of the residents in the area who spoke with this reporter on phone, Mr. Silas Okafor, the incident took place around 6pm on Tuesday. Mr. Okafor said the identity of the attackers is not known yet.

Brigadier General Nwachukwu urged members of the public to remain calm and also provide useful information about the fleeing gunmen to the force.

“We assure the general public of our commitment to provide adequate security in the general area in collaboration with other security agencies.

“We also urge members of the public to complement the effort of the security agencies by remaining law abiding and provide useful information on the fleeing gunmen,” the statement added.
