1. G5 Governors Fail To Name Preferred Presidential Candidate

Five aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also known as G5, have once again kept Nigerians in suspense about their preferred presidential candidate in the forthcoming election.

The governors on Thursday stormed Ibadan, Oyo State for the flag off of the re-election campaign for Governor Seyi Makinde.

Other members of the G5 led by Nyesom Wike of Rivers State include Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu; Benue State, Samuel Ortom and Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

The governors who had reportedly promised to name the presidential candidate to support in the upcoming election, however, kept silent on that in their separate remarks at the re-election campaign in Ibadan. Read more.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has faulted the endorsement of Peter Obi by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Tinubu at a presidential campaign rally in Benin, Edo State on Thursday, described Obasanjo’s endorsement of Obi as poison for Nigeria. Read more

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set up a committee to manage the Situation Room and Collation Centre during presidential election coming up on February 25.

6. Oil Theft: Buhari Charges Security Forces To Step Up Action Against Culprits

President Muhammadu Buhari has charged the security operatives fighting oil theft in the Niger Delta to deal decisively with the Culprits and end the menace latest by May 29.

Buhari gave the injunction through the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Hon. Timipri Sylva, who along with several top government officials, visited the Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Delta Safe (OpDS), in Effurum, Delta State and Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

7. Labour Fault FG’s Financial Intervention In Privatised Power Companies

The organised labour has faulted the injection of over N3 trillion by the Federal Government into the privatised electricity companies with­out commensurate increase in power generation over the past 10 years.

8. NNPC Denies Exporting 17.87m Barrels Of Crude Oil Illegally

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has said it did not export 17.87 million barrels of crude oil out of the country from 2016 to 2020 without proper documentation.

9. 2023 Presidency: Obi Most Qualified – Afe Babalola 

Founder and Chancellor of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Chief Afe Babalola (SAN) has said that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, is the most qualified person among other candidates for the 2023 election.

10. INEC Devolves PVC Collection To Wards Nationwide 

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has devolved the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to the ward level nationwide as part of measures to ensure massive collection by registered voters.

The Commission made this known in a statement released on Thursday, January 5, 2023.
