4. Long Queues In Banks As cash Withdrawal Limit Implementation Begins

Over 20 Deposit Money Banks on Monday began the implementation of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s new cash withdrawal limit policy across the country with bank customers expressing anger over the new rule.

The Governor of the CBN, Godwin Emefiele, had on December 21, 2022, and revised the bank’s earlier cash withdrawal limits.

 5. Port Harcourt Refinery Begins Operation in Q1 2023

The 60,000 barrels per day Port Harcourt refinery is expected to begin operations in the first quarter of 2023.

Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, made this known on Monday.

He also disclosed that the federal government acquired 20 to 30 per cent equity stake in private refineries including: Duport refinery (30 per cent), Walter Smith (30 per cent), Azikel (20 per cent), as well as Dangote (20 per cent).

The Nigerian government has indicated that it will end the importation of fuel by 2024.

8. Nigeria Records N170.2 trn Worth of Foreign Trade

According to report from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), trade conducted between Nigeria and other countries reached N170.265 trillion from 2018 to 2022 (five years).

The report indicated that total exports within the period were N89.5 trillion while imports were N80.6 trillion. This made Nigeria record an N8.9 trillion surplus of the balance of trade during the period.

A clash between Yoruba Nation Agitators and police in Ojota, Lagos on Monday, led to the death of at least two persons.
