1. Tinubu: I’m Back, Ready To Work After May 29 Inauguration

Nigeria’s President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has expressed his readiness to start work immediately after inauguration on May 29.

2. Debt: China Gives Nigeria 3 Conditions

China has expressed its readiness to listen to Nigeria, and other countries faced with burden of its debt.

However, the giant Asian country has made demands before a final decision can be reached on debt restructuring.

According to data released by the Debt Management Office (DMO), Nigeria’s debt to China has increased by 209 per cent under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The country’s debt to China as of December 2022, stood at $4.29 billion, up from $1.39 billion in June 2015, the Debt Management Office revealed.

3. Crisis Looms In Varsities Over Workers’ Exclusion From FG’s 40% Pay Rise

Unions in Nigerian universities may be gearing up for another round of squabbles with the Federal Government over the exclusion of their workers from the 40 per cent pay rise for peculiar allowance and arrears.

The government recently announced plans to begin payment of the approved 40 per cent increase for civil servants in the federal ministries, agencies and departments under the Consolidated Public Salary Structure.

However, workers in the nation’s universities have kicked against their exclusion, describing the action of the government as a recipe for crisis.

4. Petrol Price Increases By 42.63% per Litre In 1 Year – NBS

The average retail price of a litre of petrol has increased from N185.30 in March 2022 to N264.29 in March 2023, a report from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) revealed.

The Bureau’s Petrol Price Watch for March 2023 released on Monday, indicated that the March 2023 price of N264.29 represented a 42.63 per cent increase over the price of N185.30 recorded in March 2022. Read more

Members of the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) have launched attack on the outskirts of Borno, but Nigerian troops have reportedly repelled it.

6. Court Nullifies El-Rufai’s Revocation Of Dubar Hotel’s C of O

A High Court sitting in Kaduna State has nullified the revocation of the certificate of occupancy (C of O) of Durbar Hotel by the Kaduna State government.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai had in January 2020 demolished Durbar Hotel, owned by the family of the late head of state, General Sani Abacha, and revoked the C-of-O while the case was pending in court.

However, the the Abacha family subsequently challenged the action in court leading to the latest judgement.

7. 2023 Census: NPC Assures Nigerians Of Server

As Nigeria prepare for the 2023 Population and Housing census, the National Population Commission (NPC) has reassured the public of the safety of its server and data.

Dr Isiaka Yahaya, Director, Public Affairs Department (PAD) said this in a statement issued on Monday.

8. Benue Man Buried Alive Over Witchcraft

An elderly man has been reportedly buried alive following a witchcraft allegation levelled against him by some youths in the Ikyve community of Konshisha Local Gornment Area of Benue State.

The incident according to witnesses, happened during the weekend in Ikyve community, a rural enclave that borders Cross River State.

9. Air Peace Offers To Evacuate Nigerians Stranded In Sudan

Chairman of Air Peace, Barr Allen Onyema, has offered to evacuate Nigerians stranded in the crisis-hit Sudan free of charge.

The Air Peace chairman noted that the Nigerians stranded in the conflict-ridden Northeast African country, ugently need help.

He said his airline is willing to go immediately and evacuate them if the government can move them to a safe neigbouring country, adding that everything must not be left for the government to alone. Read more

10. Quest To Birth Nigeria Air Suffers Another Setback

The quest by the current administration to have the Nigerian Air launched has again suffered setback following an order of the Federal High Court Abuja restraining the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), from issuing an Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC), to the national carrier.

The Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has been making effort to see that the national carrier is birthed before it leaves the stage in May, but that may apparently be a far cry given the ongoing legal challenge between the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) and the Federal Government. Read more
